Galaxy Z Fold 8 battery specs: Bigger and faster than Fold 7

Galaxy Z Fold 8 battery specs: Bigger and faster than Fold 7

Samsung's 2026 foldable phone series introduces a new, wider Fold model. The regular Fold format is now branded “Ultra,” and the Flip is just the Flip. But the familiar Fold name now belongs to a completely new, wider model.

The Galaxy Z Fold 8, as it's called, is somewhat of a blank slate for Samsung. We can see its design influences plainly, but it is wider than any other Galaxy phone, it's missing a camera at the back, and naturally, it has a new battery setup. Here's all you need to know about the latter.

Since it's a new entry in the series, there was no other device like the Fold 8 before it, so if we're looking for a point of reference from previous years, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 is probably the closest we can get. We'll use it for a quick comparison.

Here's what the Galaxy Z Fold 8 battery specs look like:

  • Capacity and type: 4,800mAh
  • Wired charging: 45W
  • Wireless charging: 20W

In contrast, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 features:

  • 4,400mAh
  • 25W wired charging
  • 15W wireless charging

So, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 improves not only the battery capacity but its charging speeds as well, both wired and wireless. It certainly seems like a good start for this new series.

But there's something else that's special about the latest foldable phone models, including the Fold 8. Samsung is finally using Silicon-Carbon battery technology, and the new Galaxy Z8 series is the first to adopt it.

Samsung may eventually expand the use of Si-C batteries to more Galaxy phones and perhaps the Galaxy S27 series due early next year is next in line. But for now, it's a Z8-exclusive feature.
